The Boy Scouts organization has become a thing of the past. As of Friday, the scouting program’s name was officially changed to Scouts BSA and girls were officially able to join.
“I could not be more excited for what this means for the next generation of leaders in our nation,” Chief Scout Executive Michael B. Surbaugh said in a statement, according to CNN.
“Through Scouts BSA, more young people than ever before — young women and men — will get to experience the benefits of camaraderie, confidence, resilience, trustworthiness, courage and kindness through a time-tested program that has been proven to build character and leadership.”
Cub Scouts, the feeder program that targets younger children, will keep its name. The Cub Scouts began accepting girls in 2018. Likewise the name of the parent organization — Boy Scouts of America — will also remain unchanged.
However, parent Stacey Russell is pleased at the change, reported WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida. Her daughter, Kaylee, will become a Scout, following in the footsteps of her older brother.
“I like the leadership skills they’re developing,” Russell told the station. “I’ve watched them with their friends and they know what they’re supposed to do, they know how they are supposed to behave.”
Kaylee Russell told the station she’s already done many of the activities in which Scouts participate.
“My brother was always in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts,” she said. “He always included me and I would do things like archery, swimming, and shooting rifles. That encouraged me that I wanted to become a scout myself.”
Reaction to the change has sparked enthusiasm, said Sharon Moulds, CEO of the Pittsburgh-area Laurel Highlands Council for the Scouts, according to NPR.
“It’s kind of a mix because we have some … grandfathers, and they’re saying, ‘Oh, I can get my granddaughter in,’” she said. “They absolutely want their granddaughters to have the same opportunities.”
“They’re excited about having the opportunity to do what they’ve seen their brothers do or the other boys do,” Moulds said. “I think a lot of them, what we’re seeing is that they just want to be Eagle Scouts.”
Girl Scouts of the USA, which has frowned upon the change, issued a statement Friday saying that it is a better place for girls than the rival organization.
The change “does not change the position of Girl Scouts of the USA or our mission to serve girls, and girls only, and to foster their amazing leadership potential. We remain steadfast in our knowledge that Girl Scouts is the world’s single best leadership development program for girls,” the statement said.
The Girls Scouts sued to block the new name for scouting. The case is still pending.
“Boys in our society have had an advantage because it’s been a male-dominated society,” said Heather Burlew-Hayden, chief marketing and recruitment officer for Girl Scouts of Northern California, the New York Post reported.
“We are all about what’s best for girls and we have been since we started, back when it was considered improper for girls to run and play outside. Our organization is about sisterhood, it’s about letting girls find their spark in a safe space.”

Both of my sons were boys scouts, When they let the fags in I stopped the annual donation and sold the 17 acre piece of ground that maintained fortheir use. Goodbye Boy Scouts, you did well.
So wrong. Girls and b oys have different needs and wants. They should be kept separate. This will probably doom scouting.
I was a Cub Scout Leader with my oldest son years ago, then a Girl Scout leader years with my daughter. I would never have them in the same program. It is a shame that people today have ruined programs for booths and girls. There is a difference between boys and girls no matter what the morons say today. I am glad that my great granddaughters and great grandsons have no desire to be in the Scouts. They have become disgraceful programs.
Betty Jay: Agreed, but how is it EVEN POSSIBLE for the Girl Scouts to not be dragged into this lunacy? The “Transgendered Scouts” won’t be getting any donations from me, but the Girl Scouts will.
I’m with you Betty Jay. These Democrats are from the Moon…no logic…no common sense…no functioning brain power. One of my sons was in the boy scouts and loved it. I was a girl scout and loved it that way. At that age the kids don’t like each other anyway….so it just makes it worse for them to be thrown together.
I agree Betty. It has become a sad world. I will no longer support Boy Scouts. Allowing gays & girls goes against everything I believe in. My son was an Eagle Scout.
The Boy Scouts are no longer the kind of organization I would want my boys in anyway. I have 2 Eagle Sons.
I am curious what 15 and 16 year olds will be doing on camping trips. I am afraid the additional temptation may be too much and you can’t keep your eyes on them every minute.

I joined the Boy Scouts program back in 1960, which was the programs Golden Anniversary year (50th year). I have always been proud of the BSA,both as a youth and an adult leader. It saddens me deeply’. To see this once wonderful program mutate into something I personally cannot recognize, in it’s current form. The hate mongers, homosexuals and urban liberal elements have finally achieved their desired goal. To ruin, twist and pervert the organization into something I do not recognize today. It is with great sadness, that the Boy Scout Troop we sponsor. Will close for now, and I will no longer be an active adult leader in it. May all of you liberals out there. Rot in Hell, for the destruction you have brought upon it.
Yeah. It’s gotten to the point politically that when the scouts go off to camp, SOMEONE will come back pregnant. Now my friends………………how is the young girl going to explain that one to her parents?
What a sad day this is for the Boy Scouts of America. My dad was a scout leader for years while my brothers and I were scouts. Then as our families grew my son and nephew were both scouts, my son going all the way to Eagle! I was so very proud of him too. Sadly though his son, my grandson will not take part in what has become just another piece of liberal social engineering. We all took our places and played our parts in a great organization that was meant to teach young men the importance of traditional values and their place in life as boys readied themselves for manhood. And just like that, it’s gone! This really is a sad day for hundreds of thousands of us who were proud to wear the scouting uniform and share in the camaraderie of the scouting experience.
The day scouts became liberal is the day the program died. The lines are blurred and kids are paying the price. It makes me sick to read that Boy Scouts is changing the name. They are caving into what liberals want. What about the Pledge of Allegiance? Are the kids going to kneel? I have been brought up to believe first God and then Country. Unbelievable!
So what these idiots are saying is that the Girl Scouts is a sham and useless organization! Putting children together in these programs is the worst idea. I was a Boy Scout and I would have quit if tbey let Girls in. And then to let homosexuals in too! But what do you expect from a Country with no morals anymore!
As an eagle scout myself and brother to four sisters I totally disagree with this decision to let girls and boys be in scouts together. As a leader for my own boys, I wouldn’t have wanted girls mixed in with these rowdy boys. Can you imagine when they become interested in sex how to patrol this on a weekend camp out or summer camp for a week. After a while there would be no interest in scouting advancement, just in the opposite sex. If girls want to be eagles change the girl scout requirements to match the boys. Maybe scouting should be involved with girl scouts even for a weekend camp out, girls on one side boys on the other, sharing camping duties during the Day. With plenty of adult supervision which is hard to do. On a typical camp out we usually had two adults and 15 boys. Not enough to keep an eye on even 10 boys and girls 24 hours a day.
Idiotic I guess it goes right along with gender identity conflicts. Sheeple have lost their minds, they have NOTHING of use to contribute so they have to manufacture crap and throw our kids right into their pile of sh*t. I would NEVER allow my Grandchildren to be a part of such moronic Organizations. This is what happens when all morals, values and common sense are gone from society.
