Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. She asked Mr. Cohen a series of specific questions about how Mr. Trump had handled insurance claims and whether he had provided accurate information to various companies. “To your knowledge,” she asked, “did Donald Trump ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?” He had.
She asked whether Mr. Trump had tried to reduce his local taxes by undervaluing his assets. Mr. Cohen confirmed that the president had also done that. “You deflate the value of the asset and then you put in a request to the tax department for a deduction,” Mr. Cohen said, explaining the practice.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez continued, asking, “Do you think we need to review financial statements and tax returns in order to compare them?” She pressed Mr. Cohen for the names of others who would be able to corroborate the testimony or provide documents to support the charges. In response, Mr. Cohen listed the executives Allen Weisselberg, Ron Lieberman and Matthew Calamari — names that, thanks in part to Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, we will probably hear more about in the coming months.
The opening statement for Michael Cohen, the former attorney of President Donald Trump, has been revealed and it is shocking.
It is devastating enough, even if it is a lie, that it could bring about impeachment proceedings.
In the opening testimony Cohen will give on Wednesday in a public hearing before Congress he asserts that President Trump knew of Russian collusion with his campaign, Politico reported.
“Mr. Stone told Mr. Trump that he had just gotten off the phone with Julian Assange and that Mr. Assange told Mr. Stone that, within a couple of days, there would be a massive dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” Cohen will testify.
In his testimony he recalls that Trump responded to that by saying “Wouldn’t that be great.”
But, and this is important, he will say he has no evidence of any direct collusion with Trump and the Russians or Wikileaks.
The former Trump attorney will also recount an anecdote suggesting that Trump had knowledge of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between top campaign officials and a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer offering dirt on Hillary Clinton.
In early June, Cohen recounts, he was with Trump in his office when Donald Trump Jr. — one of the meeting’s participants — “came into the room and walked behind his father’s desk,” which Cohen says was “unusual.”
“I recalled Don Jr. leaning over to his father and speaking in a low voice, which I could clearly hear, and saying: ‘The meeting is all set.’ I remember Mr. Trump saying, ‘Ok good … let me know,’” Cohen will say in his prepared testimony.
The president has denied having prior knowledge of the meeting, which has been scrutinized by congressional investigators and special counsel Robert Mueller’s prosecutors.
Additionally, Cohen will address a recent BuzzFeed report stating that Trump had directed him to lie to Congress about the Trump Organization’s business dealings in Moscow. While he says Trump did not “directly tell me to lie,” Trump “would look me in the eye and tell me there’s no business in Russia and then go out and lie to the American people by saying the same thing. In his way, he was telling me to lie.”
Cohen will tell lawmakers that Trump asked him “how’s it going in Russia?” — which he says is a reference to the Trump Tower Moscow project — at least six times between January and June of 2016. He says Trump’s attorneys “reviewed and edited” his false statement to Congress about the timing of the Moscow deal.
“Mr. Trump knew of and directed the Trump Moscow negotiations throughout the campaign and lied about it,” Cohen will say. “He lied about it because he never expected to win the election. He also lied about it because he stood to make hundreds of millions of dollars on the Moscow real estate project.”
Cohen will also testify that President Trump directed him to violate campaign finance laws to pay porn Star Stormy Daniels and a Playboy model.
“I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump’s illicit acts rather than listening to my own conscience,” he will testify.
“I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is.” He will say. “He is a racist. He is a conman. He is a cheat.”

My first thoughts when Michael Cohen appeared on my TV screen the very first time and before I knew anything about him I communicated this to two longtime friends. I wouldn’t trust this guy with a banana peel and if he’s Trumps attorney . . . this is a HUGE MISTAKE and Trump needs to look out and be very careful with him and definitely not trust him with very far with anything. This guy is a sleaze and no one in his sights can be too careful. Over the ensuing months and years my every fear has not only been realized but magnified exponentially.

His only objective is to try and save himself and obtain a reduced sentence. He should already be in prison instead out giving false testimony to Congress now. AGREE 100% I watched the hearing today, and cohen contradicted himself too many times. Which means he was lying………..so will they add more years to his original sentence, or will he get reduced time in prison? I also heard several questions which should have been out of line, as in leaving out some crucial facts about what President Trump has done, and facts about his ”racism” (according to some statements). MS. .enemy of our USA TLAIB lied about him and MR. Meadows. So, il’s OK for the congressmen to lie, and for the accused to lie as long as they are DES……or DEM sympathizers? When Michael Cohen first appeared on my TV screen. He gave me chills and jitters. I e-mailed two longtime friends. I asked what the HE** was Trump thinking when he hired this guy. There is nothing in what he is saying. Trump started negotiations in the mid 1980’s on a hotel in Moscow. Cohen for some period of time was involved in maintaining contacts. Apparently there was never a deal; it was all negotiations to get to a deal. Trump obviously knew about the parameters and monitored the progress. Until there is a deal there is no business in Russia which is what Trump said. That is not a lie. Cohen could update him but it was all conjecture about a possible deal; that is not business. It is a process of negotiating.
In regards the Trump Tower meeting, any and all candidates are going to look for info against their opponent. It is how that info is used which determines how clean you want to run your campaign. The Democrats seem to be more involved in manufacturing dirt and playing for keeps than Republicans. Politics has gotten mean and dirty and that is unfortunate. Other than Watergate, the Republicans have been pretty clean. None of the above is a lie or collusion with Russia. The only contacts involving the campaign seem to be Trump Jr and some other associates. Any potential president would try to open doors for communication with Russia and other countries as they will soon be responsible for foreign policy. There is no speculation about any deals with the campaign. It is just normal politics.
What about information between a lawyer and their client being confidential anyway? Cohen has no ethics.
