It is a wonder that The White House continues to send guests to appear on “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace considering the way he treats them.
But Kellyanne Conway, the counselor to President Donald Trump, appeared on the show on Sunday and battled him face to face.
Wallace asserted that Republicans conducted closed door hearings on Benghazi similar to what Democrats are doing to the president now.
“When the Republicans had control of the House in 2017 and ‘18, they conducted the investigation about Russia and interference in 2016 behind closed doors,” he said.
“When Republicans did the Benghazi investigation, they conducted it behind closed doors,” the host said.
But, as Conway had to explain to the host, impeachment is not the same as an investigation into an attack on the military.
“Respectfully, Chris, this is about impeaching a president of United States,” she said. “Benghazi was about four Americans who died.”
“This is an extraordinary event that should be undertaken in the most extraordinary prudent circumstances and we are nowhere near that,” she said.
“The full House did not vote to authorize an impeachment inquiry. Just Democrats did,” Conway said. “This is not as Nancy Pelosi promised it would be — overwhelmingly bipartisan.”
“We’ve seen different people going up there and testifying,” she said. “What we haven’t seen is the fullness of the eight or 10 hours each of them has spent testifying.
“I guess Adam Schiff’s growing mushrooms in the dark in his secret process, which is unfortunate because you cannot put that toothpaste back in the tube. You can not cure what has been a flawed process from the beginning,” she said.
But Wallace said that there were others who expressed concern about the call President Trumpo had with the Ukrainian president.
“Top foreign policy officials to this president have all testified about repeated instances where they saw the support for Ukraine dependent on Ukraine investigating the Bidens,” he said. “Isn’t that the definition of a quid pro quo?”
“The fact is Ukraine has that aid, they’re using that aid as we sit here,” Conway said.
“You’re missing the point,” Wallace said. “The aid was withheld until–” But then Conway cut him off.
“The Ukrainian president says he has no idea the aid was withheld,” she said. “You’re trying to make that causation where it may be coincidence.”
