There are some people in the political world who are just manipulative scumbags (okay, probably a lot of people like that). They are so set on getting their way, whether or not it’s in the best interest of their constituents or if their constituents want it, they’ll go to the most extreme measures. Oh, and they’ll mock the people who want to do the right thing while they’re at it.
That’s exactly what happened in Texas recently. Maybe you’ve heard a bit about the efforts to pass election reform in that state to prevent the widespread vote fraud that many believe happened in numerous states during the most recent Presidential election. Jack Phillips writes,
In a move underscoring the political brinkmanship in the state, Texas Democrats confirmed Monday they flew via a chartered plane to Washington D.C. after walking out on Republicans’ proposed election overhaul bill. Republicans say the bill is needed to secure the state’s elections and restore Texans’ confidence in their elections, while Democrats have said it would unfairly target minority groups and is tantamount to voter suppression.
On May 30, during the previous session, Democrats walked out at the last minute, preventing Republicans—who have a majority in the legislature—from passing the voting bill. As a result, Abbott called for a special legislative session that was supposed to start Tuesday before most House Democrats left the state of Texas.
Many people will say that the only “minority groups” that election integrity bills target are those who want to implement fraud in the election process, and the only votes that these bills would “suppress” are fraudulent votes.
Those on the political left have a right to disagree with that assessment, but the history of the left and their political party of choice in America, the Democratic Party, indicates that they are the group with the tendencies to oppress and use minorities. Many people would say that this effort by Texas Democrats is nothing more than a continuation of that ugly tradition.
